Prospective new members are encouraged to come and sit in a rehearsal, but we suggest you contact us at music@gvcb.ca or contact the Band Manager listed here to ensure the band is rehearsing the night you come. The GVCB offers you a chance to play with other musicians in any of our four skill levels. The Senior, Intermediate, and Junior Level Bands all participate in public performances throughout the year. The Novice Level Band can teach you how to read music and to play the instrument of your choice. Recruitment has begun (2024-2025) and the bands are open for recruitment year-round! The Intermediate, Junior, and Novice Level Bands are welcoming new members for all sections!
Novice Level Band is the place to start if you have never played the instrument before. It rehearses in the Band Room at St. Andrews Regional High School (880 McKenzie Ave) on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00pm. The season’s first rehearsal for the Novice Band is on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024.
Junior Level Band expects members to have at least one year of playing experience. It rehearses in the Band Room at St. Andrews Regional High School (880 McKenzie Ave) on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. The season’s first rehearsal for the Junior Band is on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024.
Intermediate Level Band plays at a school grades 8 to 10 level. It rehearses in the Choir Room at Claremont High School (4980 Wesley Road) on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The season’s first rehearsal for the Intermediate Band is on Monday, September 9th, 2024.
Senior Level Band plays at a senior high school or university level. It rehearses in the Band Room at Claremont High School (4980 Wesley Road) on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm . Right now the Senior band is short on clarinets but, no matter your instrument, you are welcome to drop in to a rehearsal to see if there might be an opportunity for you. Come out to a rehearsal for the Band Level that looks like your best fit. If it doesn’t work out, you can try other Band levels. When you have attended at least one rehearsal and have the permission of the Band Conductor and/or Band Manager to join a Band Level, then please fill in the Registration Form and pay your annual dues. It is expected that new and returning members will do this within one month (or 4 rehearsals).
The GVCB is an adult organization. This includes senior students (Grades 11+). Younger players may be considered at the discretion of the Band Conductor and Band Manager).
At the discretion of the Band Manager and Band Conductor, it is sometimes possible to play in more than one Band Level and/or play more than one instrument; however, for registration purposes you will be asked to choose one Band Level, one primary instrument and pay one Membership fee.
The 2024-25 GVCB Membership fee is $220. If paying this fee presents a problem for you, please read the note on the Registration Form about support available.
